About Us

The Montpelier Collective was founded to promote community involvement by student athletes at James Madison University and to provide support of their volunteer efforts for local charities by awarding stipends for use of their name, image or likeness in connection with such efforts. The central goal of the Collective is to prepare student athletes for a lifetime commitment to charitable endeavors. The Collective is led by a non-paid Board of Directors, which is assisted by student volunteers who handle administrative tasks under the Board’s direction. The organization's funds come from donations made by supporters, local citizens, and businesses in the Shenandoah Valley. The Board of Directors ensures that revenue is utilized to provide direct volunteer assistance to local charities, with a maximum of 10% going towards administrative expenses.

How it Works

Athletes selected for participation enter into formal written agreements with the Collective, which contain objective, measurable volunteer goals and criteria they must achieve during the one-year term of the contract. Each athlete is responsible for tracking and reporting their progress, which is verified by the charities for which they volunteer, and failure to meet stated goals will result in a reduction or elimination of stipends.
